Different Aube Wine Tours

Aube is one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution in 1790 and was created from part of the former province of Champagne.

Named after the Aube River which flows through the area before joining the Seine, Aube is a land of lush fertile fields and dense forests. It is home to the most famous nectar in the world, Champagne. As you glide through the area keep in mind that there are many things to see and do in addition to drinking wine all day!

Aube Wine Tour - Chateau Charm

To the west of Nogent lies the 18th century chateau de la Motte Tilly, often used in period dramas and films for its elegance, décor, and charming gardens.

In 1754 the abbot Joseph Terray, who would become Louis XV's general inspector, built the chateau from the ruins of an old feudal castle. No Aube wine tour would be complete without a trip to this castle.

Aube Wine Tour - For'et d'Orient

This is the Regional Nature Park that is so-called because it was inhabited by knights of the Crusades, who were rumored to have buried their treasures from the Holy Land there. Ten kilometers east of Troyes, you will be able to swim, sunbathe, fish, windsurf, kayak, water ski, and even jet ski in this national park.

This area has 5,000 hectares of lakes created to regulate the flow of the river. Many local vineyards are arranged to share the local history with the traveling wine lover.

This area offers stunning views of the nearby hills and valleys. In the Cote des Bar, the pinot noir is king. Covering 22% of the total appellation, the Aube produces nearly a quarter of the 300,000 million bottles sold annually world-wide.

Aube Wine Tour - Troyes

This is the central town of Aube and former capital of Champagne that is steeped in history. When Attila the Hun invaded Gaul in 451, destroying everything in his path, the bishop of Troyes, St. Loop, offered himself to the invader to spare the town, and he did.

Fire destroyed much of Troyes in1524, but the wealthy residents quickly rebuilt it on a larger, more opulent scale, with attractive timber-framed houses. Many of the homes are decorated in bright pastels, arranged around dark alleys and streets and squares with fountains.

The town holds its famous champagne fairs in the second week of June each year. The town today is not so much known for its wine as for being the biggest factory outlet center in Europe.
